The Basingstoke Specialist Pharmacy Aseptics Unit prepares chemotherapy for cancer patients, but its current manual, paper-based processes are time-consuming, error-prone, and contribute to treatment delays. Introducing the BD Cato™ Medication Workflow Solution would replace outdated manual processes with automated, paperless workflows, ensuring greater accuracy and efficiency.

Patient safety will be significantly improved with BD Cato™, which integrates barcode verification to prevent drug selection errors, gravimetric control to ensure accurate dosing, and automated tracking to enhance quality control. These measures reduce the risk of medication errors, ensuring patients receive the correct chemotherapy treatment every time.

Efficiency and productivity will also increase, as electronic scheduling streamlines daily preparation, eliminating manual planning and reducing delays. The transition to paperless processing will remove administrative burdens on staff, allowing them to focus on patient care. Faster chemotherapy preparation will also enable the unit to treat more patients, improving service delivery.

The introduction of BD Cato™ will also lead to cost savings through improved medication management, reducing waste and ensuring the most efficient use of resources. The system will support 3,500 patients annually across HHFT, including 2,600 oncology patients.

With cancer cases continuing to rise, BD Cato™ will enhance patient care, reduce errors, cut costs and optimise efficiency, ensuring HHFT remains a leader in modern aseptic pharmacy services.
